The two continents in this campaign, Carth and Alaria, are close neighbors as continents go, and both lie in the southern hemisphere. Alaria, to the south, is mostly temperate, with winters more severe as one moves farther south, ending in the always arctic-like Frostfang Mountains along the southern coast. Alaria’s most notable geographic features (besides the Frostfangs) include the Escarpment, a 700-mile long ledge, or cliff, that runs north-to-south from the northern coast inland, separating the lakes region from the highlands; the Grand Cascade, a waterfall over the Escarpment that is nearly a mile wide; the Buckle mountain range (known most often as the Buckles), an east-to-west range in the west central part of the continent; the Spearhead mountains; and the many lakes in the region known as the Freeholds. Alaria is mostly forested, but its easternmost quarter is comprised of expansive grasslands. Alaria is separated from Carth by the Sundering Sea; at its narrowest, near the middle of the continent’s northern coast, are The Pillars, jutting columns of rock that represent a danger to shipping and navigation.
Much of Carth is unexplored, or at least unfamiliar to most Alarians. The continent is best known for the Great Desert of Carth, which spans nearly the entire width. The Kataban Mountains run along the western coast, and a northeastern mountain range has also been reported by explorers. Off the western coast are the Shattered Lands, barren, rocky, volcanic islands that are separated from Carth by the Smoking Sea. Of those parts of Carth that are known, most that aren’t desert are tropical forest. The familiar exception to this is Korapan, a peninsular nation in the southeast that is a largely forested land, like most of Alaria.
Edros has no moon. The night sky is illuminated by [[Sherea’s Belt]], a ribbon of dense stars that runs basically north-south and that can be seen, weather permitting, from anywhere on Carth or Alaria.
